Python scripts for use with uv run

These Python scripts can be run directly from their URLs using uv run.

Their source code is available on GitHub.

list_llm_model_ids.py

List available model IDs from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini.

You must have LLM installed and have configured the API keys for one or more of anthorpic, openai, or gemini using llm keys set.

git_read_only_http.py

Serve a local Git repository over HTTP in read-only mode.

uv run https://tools.joostvanderlaan.nl/python/git_read_only_http.py \

Defaults to serving on localhost:8000. Use -H/--host and -p/--port to change that.

You can then clone the repo like this:

git clone http://localhost:8000/ directory_name

Claude transcript.

claude_code_to_gist.py

uv run https://tools.joostvanderlaan.nl/python/claude_code_to_gist.py

Shows an interactive list where you can select a recent Claude Code conversation, then publishes that conversation to a GitHub Gist using the gh CLI tool and returns a URL to the claude-code-timeline viewer for that Gist.

extract_issues.py

Extract GitHub issues referenced in commits between two versions (or from a single version to HEAD) and print them as #123, #124.

openai_background_prompt.py

Runs a prompt against an OpenAI model using the background option, then polls for completion and shows the JSON result when it finishes.

Also works against GPT-5 Pro and other models.

Add --code-interpreter to enable the code interpreter tool and --web-search to enable the web search tool.

claude_to_markdown.py

Convert a Claude .jsonl conversation log to readable Markdown.

Add a second filename to write to that file instead of a .md next to the .jsonl.

openai_image.py

Generate an image from a text prompt using OpenAI’s image models.

codex_to_markdown.py

Convert a Codex CLI session JSONL log into Markdown.

webc_inspect.py

Inspect Wasmer WebC archives (.webc) and print useful summary information. These are files that live in ~/.wasmer/cache/checkouts and end in .bin.

Display an image in the terminal using rich-pixels:

Calculate the size of a model on ModelScope.

gguf_inspect.py

Inspect a GGUF file (a format used by llama.cpp) and print out the key/value pairs. No dependencies.

json_extractor.py

Given a text file that includes JSON syntax but is not valid JSON - a Markdown README file for example - this tool finds all valid JSON objects within that text and returns the largest, or all of them if you specify -a.

http_check.py

Check if a given URL supports gzip, ETags and Last-modified conditional GET requests.

whitespace_cleaner.py

Replace any lines that are entirely whitespace with blank lines in specified files or folders:

Has a --dry-run option for seeing how many files it would modify.

all_gcp_buckets.py

View the size of the files in all of your Google Cloud buckets. You’ll need to have gcloud installed and do the gcloud auth dance first.

This will leave .txt files for each bucket containing a file listing, in a directory called bucket_listings_DATE.

mistral_ocr.py

Run PDF files through the Mistral OCR API:

Or to generate HTML and save images and HTML to a directory:

-he is short for --html --extract-images.

Or to create HTML with images inlined as base64 URIs:

-hi is short for --html --inline-images.

Usage: mistral_ocr.py [OPTIONS] FILE_PATH

  Process a PDF file using Mistral's OCR API and output the results.

  FILE_PATH is the path to the PDF file to process.

  Output Formats:
    - Markdown (default): Plain text markdown from the OCR results
    - HTML (--html): Converts markdown to HTML with proper formatting
    - JSON (--json): Raw JSON response from the Mistral OCR API

  Output Destinations:
    - stdout (default): Prints results to standard output
    - Single file (-o/--output): Writes to specified file
    - Directory (-d/--output-dir): Creates directory structure with main file and images
      * For HTML: Creates index.html in the directory
      * For Markdown: Creates README.md in the directory

  Image Handling:
    - No images (default): Images are excluded
    - Inline (-i/--inline-images): Images included as data URIs in the output
    - Extract (-e/--extract-images): Images saved as separate files in the output directory

Options:
  --api-key TEXT         Mistral API key. If not provided, will use
                         MISTRAL_API_KEY environment variable.
  -o, --output PATH      Output file path for the result. If not provided,
                         prints to stdout.
  -d, --output-dir PATH  Save output to a directory. For HTML creates
                         index.html, for markdown creates README.md, with
                         images in same directory.
  --model TEXT           Mistral OCR model to use.
  -j, --json             Return raw JSON instead of markdown text.
  -h, --html             Convert markdown to HTML.
  -i, --inline-images    Include images inline as data URIs (for HTML) or
                         base64 (for JSON).
  -e, --extract-images   Extract images as separate files (requires --output-
                         dir).
  -s, --silent           Suppress all output except for the requested data.
  --help                 Show this message and exit.

highlight.py

Given input text to stdin and search/highlight terms, outputs matches plus context with colors to highlight them.

Example usage:

debug_s3_access.py

Use this with a URL to an object in an S3 bucket to try and debug why that object cannot be accessed via its public URL.
